Lossapardo at La Cigale
A multidisciplinary visionary you need to know
We booked Lossapardo for a show at La Cigale because we were intrigued. After digging into his background, we weren’t just curious anymore we were hooked.
At just 28 years old, he’s already a fully-formed artist and not just in one field.
No, Lossapardo is multidisciplinary: musician, painter, illustrator, animator, singer-songwriter… the list goes on.
Yes, it sounds almost too good to be true. But trust us he’s the real deal.
The Name, The Legend
His stage name?
Lossapardo a clever twist on the French word « salopard » (literally « jerk » or « bastard »), said in verlan (French slang where syllables are reversed).
Why?
Apparently, his friends from Torcy started calling him that because he could do everything and do it way too well.
« T’as tout réussi ? T’es un salopard ! » (« You’ve nailed everything? Man, you’re a genius… or just plain unfair. ») It’s not an insult.
It’s the kind of backhanded compliment only your closest friends dare to throw the one you say when someone’s talent makes you wonder if they sold their soul for greatness.
But deep down? It’s pure respect. And maybe… just a tiny bit of jealousy. (We’ve all been there.)
Music That Feels Like a Dream
Lossapardo’s music is a gentle dive into melancholy and nostalgia.
Soulful melodies, soft vocals, introspective lyrics it’s the kind of sound that wraps around you like a late-night drive with no destination.
He says he was inspired early on by Henri Salvador the legendary French crooner and you can hear it.
Especially in tracks like Miel, where a warm, jazzy sweetness lingers in the air.
But don’t be fooled by the softness.
Underneath, there’s something deeper a modern spleen, as we’d call it: a quiet melancholy, a search for light in the shadows.
A Rising Star in Music
His musical journey took off in 2016, when he was barely 20, after meeting producer Crayon. Together, they created tracks like Slowdiving and After the Tone.
But it was in 2018 that he truly found his voice releasing his first solo songs:
Sleep, Home Alone, Pause… Each one felt like a poem set to music intimate, fragile, and deeply moving.
A Painter Who Colors His Sound
But music is just one part of his art. Lossapardo is also a self-taught painter and a brilliant one.
His works are dreamlike, introspective, often featuring self-portraits that feel like windows into his soul.
And yes, he’s self-taught. Again. His talent didn’t stay in France. It crossed the Atlantic. In the U.S., The New York Times and The New Yorker commissioned him for illustrations. He’s also designed book covers and album artwork proving his vision goes far beyond the canvas.
An Animator Who Brings Paintings to Life
Here’s where it gets even more impressive: Lossapardo uses his own paintings to create animated music videos… Yes, he directs, illustrates, and animates his clips from scratch. Some of his most beautiful works include:
Nostalgia, a visual poem in motion, Home Alone, quiet, intimate, poetic, Summer, Shine… and more. It’s not just a music video. It’s a hand-painted dream.
At La Cigale, a performance of Quiet Power
We saw him live at La Cigale, during the MaMA Music & Convention, and were completely captivated.
His stage presence? Sobriety. Calm. Intimacy. No flashy effects. No over-the-top energy. Just him, his voice, and his music letting the songs breathe and carry the audience away.
The setlist?
A beautiful blend of soul, folk, R&B, and soft, jazzy pop all tied together by his signature melancholy and poetic touch.
During Miel, the entire crowd sang along, a powerful moment of shared emotion.
(We, however, stayed silent… because we didn’t know the lyrics. Oops.) But that didn’t matter. We were too busy being swept away by the melody.
Final Thoughts
Leaving the concert, we were genuinely moved.
Lossapardo isn’t just a musician… He’s a total artist, someone who blends sound, image, and emotion into a single, cohesive universe.
He says he wants to tame shadow and light, to capture the beauty of fleeting moments and that’s exactly what he does.
Why You Should Know Him?
A soulful, introspective sound perfect for late nights and quiet moments
A visual artist whose work has been featured in The New Yorker and NYT
A filmmaker who animates his own paintings for music videos
A multidisciplinary genius who refuses to be boxed in
A live performer who doesn’t need spectacle just sincerity
Final Word
Lossapardo is more than a discovery. He’s a visionary. And if you haven’t heard of him yet… You will… Go listen. Go watch. Go feel.
